I live on the East Coast, and we don’t typically get wildfires. Well, a wildfire happened after an unseasonable dry spell around here, and it made me start digging into the world of air purifiers to boost the indoor air quality in our home, as much as possible.

In this review, I’m going to be reviewing the air purifier product offerings (specifically the Y2 Pro and Y4) from FlexiSpot.

You can skip to the video, if you would like to see more of FlexiSpot’s air purifiers in use, in my home!

FlowPlus Air Purifier (Y2 Pro)

This air purifier (Y2 Pro) is 27 inches tall and about 13.5 inches wide. It’s shaped like a tall cylinder, more or less.

My first impressions with this air purifier was that it’s big. Despite its size, it’s fairly light but maybe that’s subjective. It’s about 17 pounds. It does slide on wheels, though.

As long as it’s on one level, you shouldn’t really need to pick it up. The increased size means that it can push more air through its filter.

It has quite a few settings in the control panel. It’s all tap control and there is no remote control (this is good to know, in case you were looking for one). You have options to set a timer, set a child lock, turn the light on or off and obviously adjust the power and wind speed. There is an “auto mode,” and a sleep mode, which are good features to have, in my experience.

When using this air purifier, I found that manually setting the power mode was more predictable than doing it the auto way. I liked knowing that the fan speed was constant and that I wouldn’t be surprised by an increase in noise level from the air purifier.

I also found that in some light conditions, the screen was a little hard to read. This might be good to know if you plan to use it in a very sunny room (a few rooms in my house are constantly sunny).

The size is the biggest win for me. It really does purify a lot of air! The lower setting didn’t seem too loud, either. I had the Y2 Pro in my living room and when I was cooking in the kitchen, I noticed that the digital read-out of the air quality seemed to increase.

In about an hour, the living room was totally clear and was back to normal again.

I had the Y2 Pro running for about a month and did the math on the power usage. It cost about $5-$10 per month to always have on (take note!). Auto mode might have saved on the actual run time. You can set up a smart plug to automate the run time as well.

One thing that I wasn’t able to track down was the filter replacements. For the Y2 Pro, you need a filter exactly 15.0” H × 9.6” (diameter). I’ll add one here if I come across it, so check back soon if you’re invested in finding out.

Y4 Air Purifier

The Flexispot Y4 is an interesting shape and it’s not like any other air purifier than I’ve seen before. It also has a few layers of filters to catch differently-sized particles. It doesn’t give off air purifier vibes, so you can keep it anywhere and it can blend in with its surroundings. It actually kind of looks like a big speaker, or some other type of appliance or apparatus.

When you turn the air purifier on, the louvers open up. It’s a good indication that the air purifier is actually on and cleaning your air. It’s also a good way to keep dust out from the inside.

I like the Y4 purifier because it does have dedicated buttons to cycle through. There’s also a cool light design to tell you which quality level your air is at.

A red light will show across the width of the air purifier if you have bad air. A digital reading is also behind the grille.

Inside, there are three layers of filters (including the front grille) that are not replaceable, meaning you can wash them and reuse them as many times as you want. These sit in front of the actual replaceable filter. I figured I’d let you know that they are meant to be washed so that you know what kind of upkeep this product would involve.

You can check out my video to get an idea of how loud the air purifier actually is, in my house, and what the buttons do!

I couldn’t find the exact filter replacements for this model. You’d need something measuring 15.4” × 13.0”.

Y2 Air Purifier

I reviewed the Y2 on YouTube, but it seems to not be sold anymore by Flexispot. I’ll provide updates if I come across any changes in the availability from the company.

FlexiSpot air purifiers

I enjoyed testing these air purifiers, and I’d like to thank FlexiSpot for providing them for review. They both share some similarities. I’ll add some general thoughts and best practices of air purifiers below.

Similarities between the Y2 Pro and Y4 purifier

Both of these air purifiers will do a good job of cleaning your air and preventing smells and other harmful airborne things like dust, pollen, pet dander and so on. I had these running during the wildfires and it didn’t really smell like smoke inside my house. That was a success.

They’ll both give you a digital reading of your air quality inside your home, and they both have modes to quickly clean your air.

FlexiSpot doesn’t currently sell replacement filters for either model. Look in each section above for the exact sizes that you’ll need to track down, if you want to buy replacement filters.

Air purifier best practices

Here are a few things I’ve learned during my air purifier research. I learned a lot about this subject, ever since the wildfires happened in my area.

First, make sure to provide enough clearance between a wall and the air purifier to get the best air flow. I wouldn’t mount an air purifier directly against a wall, for example. A general guideline is that it should be 12-18 inches from any given walls.

Next, when you unbox an air purifier, make sure to inspect the filter. This is because they are often wrapped in plastic. The worst thing would be to be running an air purifier for a while and realize that it’s not actually filtering the air.

Lastly, run them as you need them. If you already have good air quality, running them constantly is kind of a waste of energy, in my opinion. You can monitor your indoor air quality, or set up a smart automation to only fire them on once your IAQ is below a safe threshold. The auto modes might be useful for a more passive approach.

I hope this was helpful for you if you have been looking into air purifiers to help the air in your home, like I have been doing.
